Electrical violations
Electrical work has been cited. Chicago requires a licensed electrical contractor, so we bring our partner in and fold it into the same case as everything else.
- Do I need a permit?
- This normally needs a permit before work starts. We file it.
- Who actually does it?
- Our licensed partner, run on our permit and our schedule, billed on our contract.
- Am I unusual?
- Not at all. This is one of the items we are called out for most, and it is rarely the only thing on the notice.
What the inspector was looking at
Wiring exposed or improper. Service overloaded or undersized. Covers and fixtures missing. Electrical alterations never permitted.
What happens if you leave it
Electrical citations are fire-risk citations. Insurers care about them, and so does anyone who ever looks at buying the building.
How we get it closed
- 1Our licensed electrical partner scopes the cited work with us on site
- 2Permitted alongside the rest of your notice, not as a separate project
- 3Repairs completed and inspected
- 4One point of contact and one closing package covering the whole case
Before you start worrying about the cost
You get one contract and one number to call, even though three licences are involved behind it.
This is almost never the only item
Chicago inspectors write up everything they can see in one visit. Fixing this and leaving the rest means the case stays open and you go to the hearing anyway. We price and clear the whole notice: our own crews on nearly all of it, licensed partners on the plumbing, heating and electrical items, and nothing left dangling for you to chase.
See how the whole thing worksUsually on the same notice
If you see any of these on yours too, that is the normal pattern rather than bad luck. They tend to share a cause.
Exits cleared and stairs lit. These are life-safety items, and they are the ones that escalate fastest when ignored.
Ceilings, walls and floors put right, with the leak behind them fixed first so you are not doing it twice.
Drawings prepared, permits pulled under our licence, and old unpermitted work made legal. You never have to call the department yourself.
